If your goal is to keep things closed and have a visual theft deterrent, this is probably fine. As far as actually provinding protection, this lock can be easily defeated with the smallest of hack saws. The shank does not even lock into the body of the lock - it just dead-ends into a 2mm deep bowl on the top of the lock. Also, the three number combination can easily be cracked - when you realize that numbers on either side of the number selected are also triggered. That is, if you need to select 4, both 3 and 5 will also work.



Finally, as stated below, this lock is lacking the ability to see if the TSA opened your bag.



On the plus side, the set your own combination feature worked fine.

No issues for me. I thought they served their purpose and for the price were a good deal. Yes bolt cutters could pull these apart easily but there is no luggage lock you can buy that won't do that.

I was very disappointed with the quality of these locks. The main problem is that the keys are very difficult to slide in and out. Even after sliding the key in an out a couple dozen times, my wife would still be unable to pull the key out of the locks. One of the keys cannot even be inserted into one of the locks! (I suppose I could try a hammer, but it would do me no good to have the key stuck in the lock.)



Once you get the key in, the locking mechanism turns fine and the locks otherwise appear to work. I'd recommend finding a higher quality lock.

You can't beat the Master lock for simple security. I secure my lock on tree stands with Master locks. I came back to my stand and someone tried to break this lock with a hammer. They really beat it up. Needless to say, they did not get the tree stand. When I unlocked the Master lock it came apart in two pieces, but it held on when it needed to. It saved me one hundred times what the lock cost. Thanks, Master lock!

I bought these specifically because they are supposed to be rustproof but what I found after about 6 weeks is the shackle is starting to rust on both locks. They are both installed on gates that are outside and sheltered by the roof overhang. Master Lock's policy requires you to mail the locks to them and they'll send replacements in 6-8 weeks but that's a long time to go without locks so I guess I'm out of luck.

I use one on my garage "man-door" and one on the backyard chain link fence gate. It's terrific not to have to carry extra keys on my ring, and I've had these locks outside in all kinds of weather and they continue to work like a charm. If they came in four locks keyed alike, I'd buy that.

I was very pleased with this lock's sturdiness and the ability to set the combination. I've never seen this model at a local retailer, and it flat-out trumps anything I've seen on the shelves.



Just to be clear I used it in an indoor storage facility that had space for two locks. The original lock was the standard issue circular lock with shrouded shackle. When I showed up with this one, the manager of the facility said wow. For what it's worth, it's a very attractive lock too that means business.



I own a wide variety of locks for storage lockers, trailers, bikes, etc, and locks like this live up to Master Lock's reputation.

This lock is great if you have bobtail trucks. it keeps the shackle from being exposed...it would definitely be hard to cut the lock.you can always change the combination when ever you feel like it. highly recommend.
